Finding Life in the Cemetery

by Pam Sievers

For the life of me, I don’t understand why I find so much inspiration and enjoyment in a cemetery. Oh don’t worry, I’m not plot shopping. But I have to confess, the older I get, I do find cemeteries more intriguing. On Wednesday, I visited the little known Camp Chase, a confederate cemetery on the west side of Columbus, Ohio. It is a well maintained, neatly enclosed final resting place for more than 2100 souls who were held captive at this Civil War Union POW camp. I’d learned about this while Continue Reading

Who Peeped In My Milk?

by Pam Sievers

I’m always amazed at the creativity when I discover unlikely food products that have been joined at the hip (usually, only to enhance our hips) to create a new, more convenient, more tasty and more indulgent product. But last week, when I saw the marriage between PEEPS brand marshmallow candy and Prairie Farms milk, I was aghast. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am an unabashed lover of milk, straight up, plain and simple - you know, the stuff that comes from cows, and I have the Continue Reading

Blaming Barbie for My Hoarding Tendencies

by Pam Sievers

I think I’ve become a hoarder. Ok, maybe I just fall on the hoarder spectrum because I am very well organized, and maybe I’m just stuck in the addiction phase. And who gets the blame for this?  Now understand, I never owned a Barbie doll – I suspect she was too racy for my mother. No, I had a Tammy doll, marketed as "more wholesome and less curvaceous" than Barbie; I’m sure Tammy wore sensible shoes, had only one piece swim suits, was home early every Saturday night and went to Sunday Continue Reading

The Arrogant American – Africa, Part 2

by Pam Sievers

I always enjoy the sights and scenery when I travel, but what I really love are the people, especially from cultures so different from mine. As much as this trip was about spotting and watching the movements of magnificent animals in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the safari was also a huge lesson about culture for me. It was the prospect of visiting a Maasai village and the city of Arusha, Tanzania that made my heart skip a beat before we even left Lansing.ArushaOur tour Continue Reading

Welcome to my website!

Welcome to my website where my goal was to fill the pages with writing that induces gut wrenching laughs. Since I have no spouse, in-laws, children, grandchildren or pets, I have to work a whole lot harder than most humor writers. Hence, instead you’ll find a blog that features travel, contemplative reflections, and of course some humor – you can’t embrace middle age without it. When not writing, I enjoy quilting, learning about other cultures, and living in the Arizona desert.
